Remember, It's Called I Hate Duane Reade

Feel free to check out the comments section for some really passionate folks who are pissed off that we have a blog to vent our feelings.

Yikes. Seriously, folks. Yikes.

But let me take a second before I post today to answer a couple of questions:

1. Yes, we have lives. Barely, but they're there.

2. We each have full time jobs and some have worked out of some really crappy situations to get them.

3. Some of us still shop Duane Reade out of convenience. Hypocritical? Yep. Do we still despise going there? Yep. It's what the shrink calls 'an abusive relationship'.

4. We've each had really good experiences at Duane Reade. But what fun is it to blog about how helpful the clerk was when you can't find the starch spray?

5. Honestly, guys. It's just a blog. You don't have to read it. We won't shut off the comments, because just as we're entitled to our opinions, you're entitled to yours. It's the first amendment and it's pretty cool we have it.

There. Never to be addressed again. Thanks for the full Inbox of support, guys and on with the show!

- Wrathos

why dont you try working at duane reade, and see how screwed up the people are that run it. I mean the ones in the corporate office , bunch of nit wits, and ass kissers.

Agreed - the first amendment is dope. Unfortunately, it allows for dopes like you to talk and talk and talk and say nothing.

And it wouldn't surprise me if you locked comments by people who disagree with you. It seems like exactly the sort of cowardly action taken by someone who sits around and types a blog about the customer service of a drug store, as opposed to a well adjusted person who simply shrugs it off. That life you got? Must be pretty dull.

I'll not write again since I'm not looking to breathe anymore life into your stupid little project.

here's a thought, wrathos. as i'm sure you know, a large portion of the employees at duane reade and decamp are minorities. is your issue that it's just bad customer service, or is that "those people" just don't snap to attention when you want to buy your q-tips or you forget to push the button at your stop?

i'm sure there are no "i hate williams sonoma" blogs. unless, for equal opportunities sake, you'd like to start one...

Wow, everyone knows DR sucks. And this is coming from a minority. These antiblog comments are hilarious. Keep going Wrathos - thumbs up!

Anonymous Employee, does it seem fair that you spread the misery? Like a parent who beats a kid and the kid turns into a bully, does that make anything better?

Mediocre Situation (good for DR, bad for you): you lack experience, good fortune, and/or the inclination to make things better for yourself, and even though you sink to your boss's level and become that which you despise, maybe people complain/vent about it in a blog, blog contributes to awareness and bad press, and parent company wakes up to negative press and fixes things to some extent. But fixing involves firing employees of your caliber, so you hop from job to job until you settle into another position working for someone similar to the bad-old DR. There you fester for the rest of your short life unless the cycle resets itself.

Worst situation: you lack the inclination and experience to make anything better for yourself, and you become that which you despise. DR stays in business by overcoming poor service with other business prowess (like it currently does) and you become embittered and crusty.

Either situation, it's pretty lose-lose for the actual employees. Try to better yourself if possible; there's almost always a way.

Best situation: Sure, you've got 3 kids at home, a booze problem, and the ladies/men can't stand your odor. So you deal with bureaucracy and get the services which exist, even if some aren't the best: a social worker, food stamps, rehab, daycare, and continuing education at a community college. Become something that you're proud of, even if the pay's not much better, and get the f*ck out of Duane Reade. You can't stand working there, and we can't stand you working there.

And hey, anonymous trolls that followed employee's comment, you are obviously following in the footsteps of Jesus. Good luck

Go screw yourself you JESUS LOVIN FREAK!

i googled corporate offices for DR to register my complaint and there you were. In addition to the horrendous service in the stores, try resolving something regarding the rewards program with customer service via the web site. I'm listed with 2 numbers which i knew nothing about until the cashier told me and i wanted to combine the two. The moron at the other end of my emails told me I had to provide both numbers. I gave her the one i had on my keychain but how could i provide the other when i have no record of it? her rudeness and then ignoring my subsequent emails is infurating. Bottom line they don't give a shit and nothing will change. hope their stock tanks.

I had the worse experience at Duane Reade. Never I've been treated so disrespectfully as I did at this BS store. I'm looking around to pick up a few things, I bump into make up, looking at one product and a guy behind me (SECURITY GUY WITH A BIG EGO, WHO THOUGHT HAD A DETECTIVE JOB) told me I try the make up and now it's a damaged property. A little small eyes shadow was already open, assuming was a tester I stick my little finger in it and looked at the color. I OFFER HIM TO BUY IT BUT HE WOULD RATHER CONFRONT ME MORE WITH A VERY PUNISHING ATTITUDE, While he was offending me in front of everyone he was also showing me the handcuff and ask me to fallow him "come here come here" he said, I said, I'm not going anywhere with you, you idiot, what are you doing, you couldn't possibly be serious about this. I also said if I buy this and without trying the color first, chances are I might not like the color then what? I'm gonna have to return it... he said NO YOU CAN"T! Can you believe the nerve? NOW HE DECIDED TO TAKE THE LIBERTY TO CHANGE POLICY. I asked to talk to the manager and he was worse then him. Now I totally forgot what I came in to buy and the all thing was an embarrassing confrontation on both part. ARE THESE PEOPLE FOR REAL?? WHAT KIND OF COSTUMER SERVICE IS THIS?THE MANAGER ALSO TOLD ME TO GET OUT WE DON'T NEED YOUR BUSINESS HERE. WHAT A BUNCH OF BOOR!!!!!

I also hate Duane Reade. I have left them (145th in Harlem) --and I am a good customer --for another drugstore.

Hopelessly incompetent drug fulfillment. Constant mistakes.......
